The number of Chinese WeChat users is expected to surpass 490 million before the end of 2017. According to predictions from eMarketer, nearly 85% of all mobile messaging app users in the country will use the service this year. Globally, WeChat has a monthly user base of nearly 1 billion. Cathy Boyle from eMarketer called the app “the most advanced mobile messaging app worldwide in terms of its functionality and the services it offers users”.
